    <title>Our Testers Loved This Tackle Box</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2647/our-testers-loved-this-tackle-box</link>

            &amp;#160;

            You want to downsize your presentation, but when you pluck that smaller jig or spinnerbait out of the box, three or four others come with it in a tangled ball that takes minutes to unravel. Sound familiar? And frustrating?

            We gave each of our tackle testers a Plano FlipSider 3614 Spinnerbait Box in order to find out whether it calmed some of those frayed nerves.

            Here&#39;s what a couple of them had to say:

            &quot;The Plano FlipSider is great. It keeps my lures separate and in their place, no matter how roughly it gets shaken.&quot;

            &quot;Finally—a tackle box that fits into my fishing bag—and allows quick access to my lures.&quot;

            The FlipSider 3614 has 18 individual compartments, with built-in hook hangers, and each row of three compartments tilts upward so you can easily grab the lure you want. Plano calls it a spinnerbait box, but it&#39;ll hold big jigs, lipless cranks and other wide-body lures as well.

                        &amp;#160;
                        All Plano&#39;s FlipSider boxes are on sale here,
                        right now.

    <title>Pink Handfish: Incredibly Ugly And Rare</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2894/pink-handfish-incredibly-ugly-and-rare</link>
    <description>

            This isn&#39;t a joke. The only thing uglier than an illustration of a pink handfish is the fish itself. This creature lives off the island of Tasmania&#39;s southern coastline near the city of Hobart. Marine biologists recently classified this strange-looking animal as a new species among a family of fish that uses its specialized fins to crawl, rather than swim, across the bottom.

            Even if you fish on the other side of the globe, there&#39;s little fear this baby would ever pick up your jig. Biologists have seen only four pink handfish—ever—according to the National Geographic Society, making the unfortunate creature as rare as it is hideous.

            The pink handfish is one of 14 species in a family that includes red, spotted and Ziebell&#39;s handfish, but biologists say they know very little about any of them because there are so few of them to study.

            Click here to see the underwater photo of this four-inch monster—we guarantee it&#39;s the most bizarre picture you&#39;ll see all week.

    <title>Fresh, Hot, Tasty Tacos</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2893/fresh-hot-tasty-tacos</link>
    <description>

            &amp;#160;

            Of all the fish that anglers keep for the table, it&#39;s a good bet that 90% of them wind up dredged in cracker crumbs or beer batter and deep-fried in bubbling oil. God bless America! But there&#39;s a world of tasty recipes out there that don&#39;t involve oil, and you&#39;re not doing your catch, or your heart, justice if all you do is fry, fry, fry!

            Case in point: Fish Tacos. These California creations combine everything to love about traditional soft-shell tacos and delicious fish in a spicy, tangy, tasty package. They&#39;re usually served with mahi-mahi, but they taste just as good (we think, better) when you whip &#39;em up with a handful or crappie, bluegill, perch, walleye, catfish, and yes—bass, fillets.

            Chef Jason Hill shares an easy-to-make, mouth-watering, grilled version of this West Coast treat in this helpful video.

                        &amp;#160;
                        Make this simple, and delectable,
                        sauce for your fish tacos.

    <title>Killer Sourdough Bread</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2892/killer-sourdough-bread</link>
    <description>

            Fry it, bake it, broil it—whatever you do with your catch at the end of the day, it&#39;ll always taste better if it shares your plate with a thick, warm slab of sourdough bread.

            Renown fishing writer and photographer, Soc Clay, knows this better than anyone else. For the last 40 years he&#39;s been baking sourdough bread from a starter that dates all the way back to the Alaskan Gold Rush. It&#39;s essentially the same bread that, in 1931, fed the Canadian Mounties and a posse of 100 civilians for weeks as they chased outlaw trapper Albert Johnson.

            Now, after developing a special dehydration process, Clay is able to ship his Mad Trapper Sourdough starter all over the country. Besides the starter, all you&#39;ll need are salt, flour and a few other staples to make this unbelievably delicious bread.

                        &amp;#160;
                        Bake the bread kept the Alaska &#39;99ers going.

            &amp;#160;

            If, after reading this email, you think the Bayou Fryer is the best invention in modern times, we&#39;ve got news for you. You might just be a redneck fisherman. And, hey, that ain&#39;t a bad thing.

            Bayou Classic Depot&#39;s 4 Gallon Bayou Fryer is one heck of a fish-fryin&#39; machine. Or, as one happy customer put it on the website: &quot;This is the biggest, baddest SOB you&#39;ll ever cook in.&quot; This cooker is big, but what&#39;s better is that it&#39;s efficient. It runs on propane and holds the oil temp just right, so you go through less fuel, and don&#39;t burn the oil.

            You gotta take a look at this thing for yourself. If you, or your local sportsman&#39;s club, VFW Post or extended family is in need of an upgrade before the next fish fry, this might be your golden ticket.

                        &amp;#160;
                        Bayou Classic Depot is offering a deal
                        right now with free shipping.

    <title>Supermodel or Fishing Guide?</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2889/supermodel-or-fishing-guide</link>
    <description>

            April Vokey might be a fishing guide, but she sure knows how to strike a pose—as do the rest of her female fishing partners at FlyGal. In fact, everything about these guides are striking, from their flair for the camera to their trophy fish to their breathtakingly beautiful fishing destinations.

            &amp;#160;

            FlyGal Gang
            Vokey and company offer one-on-one fly casting instruction, group workshops and, of course, guided trips to incredibly beautiful destinations that offer world-class fishing. How does northern British Columbia for huge steelhead, salmon, cutthroat and rainbow trout sound? If that&#39;s not enough, you can go all-out on an adventure with the FlyGals to the Bahamas, Belize or Iceland.

            &amp;#160;

            Photo Gallery
            Trophy-class fish, exotic locations and gorgeous guides all add up to some darn good photos. Check out FlyGal&#39;s spectacular photo gallery for yourself.

            &amp;#160;

             Awesome Stories, Too
            Behind every great fishing picture is a great story, too. The FlyGal blog even has a killer line from a story that didn&#39;t result in a photo op: &quot;And with one good run my fish was gone, my hook was bent out, and I was dropped to my knees in an instinctive gut-wrenching and self-loathing blow.&quot;

                        &amp;#160;
                        See more of April Vokey and the rest of the FlyGals.

    <title>Extreme Fish, Extreme Destinations</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2884/extreme-fish-extreme-destinations</link>
    <description>

            &amp;#160;

            Odds are you&#39;ve never seen a golden dorado in its own backyard. You can change that, though, if you have the urge to take your fishing to new heights. Book a trip with Fly Fishing Patagonia. It&#39;ll cost some serious dinero, but folks in the know say these guides are among the best, and yes, a fishing trip to Argentina will change your life.

            And if golden dorado are not your style, here are four other extreme fishing adventures—across the price spectrum—that will stick with ya&#39; for good:

            Lake Cachuma, California
            Hall-of-Fame fisherman Bill Siemantel has shown the world the type of high-quality bass Lake Cachuma holds. Also of interest to budget-minded anglers: Inexpensive camping and RV options around the lake.

            Paradise Plus Guide Service, Louisiana
            Bull redfish and trophy-class seatrout on the Mississippi Delta. What&#39;s more to say?

            Tuna Hunter, Massachusetts
            Little in sportfishing is more extreme than targeting Atlantic bluefin tuna. Big boats, heavy tackle and huge, arm-wrecking fish. It&#39;ll take you and a partner or two to subdue just one giant.

            Fireweed Lodge, Alaska
            One sentence on Fireweed&#39;s website reads: &quot;It&#39;s like being in the middle of a National Geographic special.&quot; Catching king and silver salmon, Alaskan halibut and gaudy rockfish just makes it better.

                        &amp;#160;
                        Read the stories about Fireweed and you&#39;ll be hooked.

    <title>Vicious Topwater Attacks</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2883/vicious-topwater-attacks</link>
    <description>

            &amp;#160;

            What angler&#39;s heart doesn&#39;t start pounding at the sight of an amped-up predator fish mauling a surface lure? Doesn&#39;t matter if it&#39;s a battle-scarred largemouth blowing up a frog, or an oversize snook pounding a chugger. Any gamefish in full-on attack mode gets the adrenaline pumping.

            But...it&#39;s...January. And even the folks in Atlanta are still digging out from the latest winter storm. Which means you&#39;re a long way off from feeling that killer adrenaline surge. So here&#39;s the cure: This amazing video will give you a much-needed topwater fix.

            In the likely event you don&#39;t recognize the species, it&#39;s a queenfish, a popular sportfish that inhabits the coastal waters off northern Australia. The footage comes from TV show host Mark Berg.

            Considering its aerial acrobatics and the simply cruel way it attacks topwater baits, it&#39;s easy to understand why the queenfish is so popular among Aussie anglers.

                        &amp;#160;
                        See Mark Berg manhandle a tiger shark.

Diehard crappie heads know all about Tennessee angler Ronnie Capps. He and partner Steve Coleman have won countless big-time crappie tournaments across the country, including SEVEN National Championships. They are considered the team to beat nearly everywhere they fish.
Despite the kind of distractions a heavyweight reputation creates, Capps still spends much of his time between tournaments guiding other crappie fishermen on famed Reelfoot Lake, his home waters. Fish with a World Champ, and pick up valuable tips and pointers on multi-rod trolling techniques to boot? How can you beat that?

And speaking of pointers, Capps also offers instruction on making the most of modern fishing electronics. Reserve a spot and he&#39;ll take you through an on-the-water, hands-on course in using the latest GPS and side-imaging technology.

    <description>

            Mid January and prime fishing time is a ways off. Instead of moping, invest a few hours in preparing for future trips.

            &amp;#160;

            Prepare Your Gear
            Now&#39;s the perfect time to replace old fishing lines, clean and tighten up all your reels and inspect your rods for bent or broken line guides. You could take &#39;em in for repair, or wrap on a new guide yourself. It&#39;s easy. Every minute you spend preparing now will pay off 10 times over once the fishing action heats up.

            &amp;#160;

            Monster Bloc
            Settle in on Sunday morning for a couple of hours of heart thumpin&#39; fishing action on Versus Network. The monster bloc kicks off with &quot;Babe Winkelman&#39;s Good Fishing&quot; at 10 a.m. Eastern, followed by &quot;North American Fisherman,&quot; &quot;The Bass Pros&quot; and &quot;Bill Dance Outdoors.&quot; And, hey, if you&#39;re not the type to just sit, go ahead and organize your tackle boxes while you watch.

            &amp;#160;

             Plan Your Dream Trip
            Get a jump on organizing this year&#39;s major fishing trips. It&#39;s not too soon to mark dates on your calendar so you can lock in vacation time. If you&#39;re still deciding on a destination, nail down the dates for the nearest sportshow where they&#39;ll be plenty of lodges and outfitters to research.

                        &amp;#160;
                        Check out angling adventures in the 49th state.

    <title>Tackle Testers Rated This Reel 9.6</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2880/tackle-testers-rated-this-reel-96</link>
    <description>

            When we got our first look at Abu Garcia&#39;s C500ALBi series spinning reels, we knew we liked them. They felt solid, with a good multi-disc drag, and just fit nicely in the hand.

            But we were more interested in what our tackle testers had to say, so we gave each of them a new C503ALBi, asked them to fish &#39;em hard and report back with their frank opinions.

            Results were overwhelming—a 9.6 out of 10 rating! Overall, they liked the reel&#39;s durability and reported that casting was smooth and easy. They also gave the $69.95 msrp a 100% approval rating. Here&#39;s what a couple of them told us:

            &quot;This reel looks great, functions well and is easy to use. It&#39;s a perfect fit for my 7-foot drop-shot rod.&quot;

            &quot;I love this reel. It&#39;s very durable and can handle heavy tackle easily. It performs well in saltwater, too.&quot;

                        &amp;#160;
                        Get the details on all the reels in the series.

    <title>A Place Record Fish Call Home</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2879/a-place-record-fish-call-home</link>
    <description>

            &amp;#160;

            You just caught a huge fish; a monster that made your heart thump and your biceps burn. What&#39;s next? After the adrenaline rush fades, you naturally start thinking about how your trophy stacks up against the fish that made some other angler&#39;s ticker overload and arms turn to noodles.

            Keeping track of world, line-class and catch-and-release record fish is just one of the many things the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame does for our sport. The non-profit organization also houses one of the best collections of vintage tackle ever assembled. Plus, it celebrates the legendary anglers, guides and others who have made great contributions to sportfishing.

            This year The Hall is asking fishermen everywhere to make a one-time $10 donation to help fund its many programs and operations. What are you waiting for?

                        &amp;#160;
                        It&#39;ll be the best 10 bucks you ever spent.

    <title>Wisconsin&#39;s Bizarre Ghost Fish</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2878/wisconsins-bizarre-ghost-fish</link>
    <description>

            Among the incredible catches recorded in 2010, few were as rare as Wisconsin&#39;s Ghost Fish, a 51-inch muskie that grabbed the spotlight in the &quot;St. Paul Pioneer Press&quot; and other newspapers back in October.

            Angler Paul Parise was fishing the lower Flambeau River, one of Wisconsin&#39;s muskie meccas, when he caught and released the trophy. That the fish was albino, which means it lacked pigments that give skin and eyes their color, is unusual. But what&#39;s most surprising is that the fish lived long enough to grow as large as it did without the coloration that allows normally colored fish to hide from predators and ambush prey.

            Though albinism is certainly rare, especially in fish, Parise&#39;s incredible catch is not the first case of a ghost-white muskie being caught in Wisconsin. State Department of Natural Resources fisheries managers took what they believed to be a 33-inch albino muskie from a test net on Tomahawk Lake in 2005.

                        &amp;#160;
                        Details on Parise&#39;s unusual day on the water.

    <title>Record Breakers And Other Monsters</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2877/record-breakers-and-other-monsters</link>
    <description>

            While a massive oil spill, the Tea Party and 33 tough copper miners in Chile might all well serve as a giant bookmark for the year 2010, anglers made a bit of history, too. Here are three fish stories to remember.

            &amp;#160;

            Record Blue Cat
            In July, Greg Bernal of Florissant, Missouri, while fishing the Missouri River with his girlfriend Janet Momphard, boated a world-record 130-pound blue catfish as a massive lightning storm approached the area. The beast measured 57 inches with a 45-inch girth, and topped the previous record by 6 pounds.

            &amp;#160;

             Monster Brown Trout
            While fishing the Salmon-A-Rama fishing derby on Lake Michigan out of Racine, Wisconsin, last summer, angler Roger Hellen of Yorkville, caught this 41-pound, 8-ounce bruiser brown trout. The monster beat the previous record, caught in Michigan less than a year earlier, by 1 ounce.

            &amp;#160;

            Massive Bass
            This 16.08-pound behemoth was caught by angler Jerry Bales of Hico, Texas. Impressive alright, but the real story is that it was just one of 12 trophy bass caught on H.O. Ivie Reservoir last year that qualified for the state&#39;s prestigious ShareLunker program. That&#39;s called a Hot Streak!

                        &amp;#160;
                        See what it takes to join these elite anglers.

    <title>3 Top Fishing Boat Picks</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2875/3-top-fishing-boat-picks</link>
    <description>

            Each of these fishing rigs will do specific jobs for a particular type of angler. What&#39;s the common thread? We like &#39;em because they offer the features we want to see in a boat, and they&#39;re among the most affordable in their class. Take a look.

            &amp;#160;

            G3 Modified V
            G3&#39;s new Eagle 176 Vinyl is a modified-V that features non-slip vinyl flooring, instead of traditional carpeting, for easy clean-up and maintenance. At 17 feet, 7 inches, it&#39;s perfect for bass or panfish fishing in all but the biggest, hairiest lakes. And with a power requirement of just 25 to 70 horsepower, it will hardly dent the fuel budget.

            &amp;#160;

             Tracker Multi-Species Rig
            Built to carry multiple anglers on larger waters, Tracker&#39;s Pro Guide V-175 Combo is a good choice for anglers who want to chase a variety of gamefish species AND need something that can double as a family-fun platform. It&#39;s got a Minn Kota bow-mount, Lowrance sonar and dual livewells, as well as seating for five, wraparound windshield and swivel cockpit chairs so you can keep an eye on skiers and wakeboarders.

            &amp;#160;

            Ranger Rocket
            A full-featured bass machine that doesn&#39;t come with a price tag that&#39;ll make you stagger? Ranger&#39;s Z118 is just that. This rig has all the refinements and fishing features of any top-echelon bass platform, but it comes in an 18-foot, 8-inch package that needs no more than 150 horsepower to run. It&#39;s a high-performance machine for fishermen ready to step up their game.

                        &amp;#160;
                        Walk through the Z118.

    <title>Angler Grapples 300 Pounder In The Pads</title>
    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2874/angler-grapples-300-pounder-in-the-pads</link>
    <description>

            &amp;#160;

            It&#39;s hard to beat a clever fishing commercial, like this one for Rapala&#39;s Trigger X softbaits. The company claims the pheromone-laced lures compel predators to eat. Apparently, they also compel large, amphibious, professional wrestlers to pick fights with unsuspecting anglers.

            Of the tackle companies that use wit and humor to drive home their selling points, Rapala is among the best. Remember the Rapala vs. river otter spot? How about the unforgettable introduction of the Jointed Shad Rap? Anglers had been waiting a long time for this lure to come out, and when it finally did, well, they apparently danced for joy.

            Sometimes, though, fishing commercials don&#39;t make you chuckle for the reasons the manufacturer had in mind. Or, maybe they knew exactly what they were doing. Check out this spot for Johnson outboards.
            &amp;#160;

                        &amp;#160;
                        It can&#39;t hurt to say a little prayer.

    <link>http://fishininformer.com/archive/articletype/articleview/articleid/2829/get-the-best-deal-of-the-year</link>
    <description> All the excitement and good cheer the holiday season brings might be waning, but anglers still have something thrilling to look forward to—Boat Show season. From now through March boat dealers will be showing off the latest fishing rigs at events around the country. Better still, anglers can typically close the best deal of the year at their local show.

Whether you go to shop, or just to take a look, the boat show is a great way to spend a chilly winter afternoon. Plus, you don&#39;t have to look very hard to find one. Discover Boating&#39;s website features a Boat Show calendar that lists hundreds of events across the country. Chances are you&#39;re within easy driving distance of more than one of them.

Here&#39;s a tip: Every dealership in the area will be represented at the show, and not just by the sales staff. Managers and the finance teams attend the show, too. So...it&#39;s the ideal place to do a little, uh...comparative shopping, if you know what we mean.

Tomorrow&#39;s Fishin&#39; Informer will show you how to choose the right fishing rig. Stay tuned! </description>
